Kit list for Mountain Navigation Course
- Small mountain tent (needs to be able to cope with strong winds and rain!). We have one tent (2 person) which we can hire for £20 for the weekend - let us know in advance.
- Compact mattress (e.g. cheap foam carry mat or Therm-a-rest)
- Sleeping bag at least 4 season (or combine 3 season with an extra lighter bag - 3 season hire at £10
- Thermal base layer (e.g. merino wool based or polypropylene are recommended)
- Dry bags to keep kit dry inside your rucksack
- Head torch (recommend good make such as Petzl) and at least one set of spare batteries (you will be using the torch for camping and night navigation exercises)
- Drinking bottle and cup
- Small cooking pot, cutlery
- Camping stove
- Personal First Aid kit
- High energy food such as sweets and nuts etc
- Evening meal (boil in the bag is easiest) + packed lunch for 2 days (e.g. oatcakes)
- Rucksack
- Warm, water-proof outdoor clothing: walking boots, gaiters, hat, gloves, water-proof trousers, fleece or jumper, gortex or other waterproof breathable jacket. Please do not bring denim or cotton.
- Compass (if you already have one). We recommend a Silva Expedition 4 - if you are buying one. The instructor will have spare compasses to borrow if you don't have one.
- Torch (if the course takes place when days are short)
- Whistle
- Phone
- Stop watch
- Packed lunch
- Thermos flask or other drink
